Our mission at the Selective Mutism Network is to promote any research, educate, and increase public awareness of Selective Mutism. We also want to find the support and resources that families are looking for. Some grandparents, friends, and other family members have never heard the child's voice. What they would give to hear him/her talk just once. As parents of children with this condition, we look around and see other children talking and ask, "why doesn't my child talk"? Selective Mutism affects children of different races and backgrounds and has touched the lives of so many, yet this condition is hardly known.

 

 

This makes finding help that much harder. There is also a  high number of adults living with this condition that struggle daily due to the lack of help received as a child. By working with the school and getting the teacher to use the weekly goal chart, you can make a huge difference in your child's life.  SMN is here to help.

 

 

We have watched our kids suffer in silence, and now it is time to do what we can to help our children.

 

 

When we found out that both our daughters had Selective Mutism, we had never heard of this condition and didn't know where to turn. It was an uphill battle and we do not want anyone to go without receiving help. I made myself a promise that if I can get my girls to overcome this condition, I would put all my time into helping others.
